"Pascal: A Poem for Those Lying to Themselves" by Jon Geels

Updated: May 27, 2023

Jon Geels (he/him) is a bisexual and agnostic writer and artist who wholeheartedly believes that silence leads to death. He wishes to give form to loud ideas, emotions, and concepts from which poetry is often devised. To read more of Geels' work, check out his blog at https://jongeelswriting.blogspot.com.

"Love the Sinner, not the Sin." "You're not going to Heaven." What an odd turn of phrase. The implication that, an All-Mighty, All-Knowing, All-Loving Creator, would sentence a person to Hell, eternal damnation, the imaginary Inferno, for "Sin", for being gay, being transgender... (instead of for: gleeful oppression, hating thy neighbor, raping in the confession booth, political corruption and capitalistic justification of intentionally nefarious iniquity, and, of course, staying neutral in times of injustice) If that Being, up Above, is like you, sets laws, fakes superiority, hates, sentences, punishes, too. "He loves everyone." "He died for you." And you? Sorry, what exactly makes you think All-Titled "God" favors you again? Honestly, I hope you go to Heaven, and I go to Hell, the eternal darkness, nonexistence, forever separated, atoms to atoms, disgraced child of Adam (and Eve too), gone from "God", and you. Because if I had to spend eternity with you... Well, I think I'll take my chances. And I wager, you will too.
